cmux is a free, open-source native macOS terminal built for running multiple AI coding agents at once. The buyer decision is whether a composable terminal with visible workspaces, notifications, browser automation, and a socket API is better for the team than a GUI orchestrator or a tmux-heavy setup.

## What it does

cmux is built on Ghostty and adds vertical tabs, split panes, notification rings, an in-app browser, workspace metadata, session restore, and a CLI or Unix socket for automation. It works with terminal agents such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, and others, and can drive its browser and panes programmatically ([cmux homepage](https://cmux.com/); [cmux getting started](https://cmux.com/docs/getting-started)).
